Biography

Doctoral Researcher · LMU München
Negar Kazemipourleilabadi at the conservation bench

Trained in Tabriz and Istanbul, I am a conservator and restorer of organic materials, paper, books, and easel paintings, currently a doctoral researcher at the Institute of Art History, Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, and a research assistant on the ERC project GLOBAL DECO PAPER.

My practice attends to the materials of the early modern Islamic book: decorated, dyed, burnished and gold-flecked papers; pigments and gilding; sized and lined supports. It calls for careful, reversible decisions. Alongside my doctoral work on Ottoman manuscript culture, I take on freelance commissions for archives, libraries, private collectors, and studios.
